    Melissa Mortensen and her partner Scott Jones have lived at the property since 2009. They moved from the Yarra Valley in Victoria after being affected by the 2007 Black Saturday bushfires.

    “We wanted to offer our children the opportunity to grow up with lots of space for horses and motorbikes and experience the special moments of farm life with chickens, lambs and cattle,” Ms Mortensen said.

    Now that their children have grown up and have their own interests, the couple have decided to downsize and find something suitable for their new lifestyle.

    The late-1800s primary homestead preserves original Baltic pine floors, soaring ceilings, original glass windows, and three working open fireplaces.

    Meanwhile, the fully self-contained secondary cottage - styled with an equestrian aesthetic paying homage to the land’s history as a sheep station and racehorse stud - provides modern luxury for guests, extended family, or holidaymakers.

    “Nayook is ready for its next chapter - whether that's a multi-generational family, an older couple wanting quiet space for visitors, or someone looking to run a boutique accommodation or agricultural side hustle,” Ms Mortensen said.

    “Having the two houses has been such a blessing as we have been able to have family stay with us long term when needed and is still very private as the houses are separated by a large garden between them.

    “We have also run a small flower farm during our time here, which as a keen gardener has been a beautiful experience and was a great way to earn extra income with the children helping when they were young.

    “We have great soil and an abundance of water to suit perfect growing conditions for iris, dahlias, peonies and chrysanthemums. It has been mostly an online endeavour however we sell bunches from the farm gate during summer.”

    She said there were so many things she would miss about living at Nayook, including early morning walks and horse rides in the paddocks or through the adjacent pine forest.

    “We have enjoyed lots of birthday parties with ponies, lambs and calf feeding over the years,” Ms Mortensen said.

    “It really is an escape from the hustle and bustle, with amazing bird life and lots of wildlife encounters, even a friendly fox who plays with our dog.”
