You no doubt find inflation, interest rates and house prices fascinating. But do you sometimes also wonder where the best place is for a summer party? For my final piece for the year, I am having a look around Australia for the suburbs that are the best places to party over summer. Although not particularly scientific, I have looked at the suburbs that have the most houses containing one of these summer favourites – swimming pool, spa or sauna. And for the ultimate party suburb, the areas with the most homes containing all three.

Using listings data across Australia over the past two years, we have taken a look at how many times pool, spa and sauna have been included in the description when a property is for sale. The analysis provides an overview of places that contain the most summer time party favourites.

Building a swimming pool was a popular project for many people during the pandemic. As a result, swimming pool installers have been hard to come by. If you are looking for somewhere with a pool ready to go, the best place to look is on the Gold Coast. Gold Coast residents not only dominate the list for having the most pools but also have access to beautiful beaches. Also on the top list was the regional Queensland town of Mt Isa. And while Queenslanders are most likely to have pools, one Melbourne suburb made it on to the top 10 list – beachside Mount Eliza.

While pools are nice, some people prefer much warmer entertainment options, particularly where the weather isn’t so sunny. While Gold Coast suburbs dominate the list for pools, Melbourne suburbs dominate the list for spas. Outer suburban Rowville tops the list for the number of homes for sale with a spa. The sauna list is also dominated by Victorian suburbs, particularly very expensive ones – both Brighton and Toorak have a lot of them. The sauna capital of Australia however is Gold Coast’s Maudsland.

The ultimate party suburbs are dominated by Gold Coast and Melbourne, two very different regions of Australia. And the ultimate party destination is Hope Island. With a median of
$1.5 million, it is the suburb you are most likely to find a home with the trifecta of pool, spa and sauna.
