The Nickson Street project was delivered by an all-female team of renovators and interior designers, with the syndicate of owners learning the process from purchase through to sale.

Ms Janson’s team manages the trades, styling and budget, and keeps tight control of each project to keep it on track.

Each project is set up as a unit trust, with a lawyer and an accountant overseeing the structure. Investors put in a minimum of $50,000 and syndicates are capped at 20 people. The Nickson Street project has 19.

When the property sells, the bank and the interest are paid out first and investors share in the profit, with the education they gain along the way a big part of the appeal.

She and her husband Stephen, who has spent his career in construction, run around three projects a year and have more than 80 years of combined experience.

“Theory is great, but nothing replaces doing it,” Ms Janson said. “Some of our women go on to run their own projects with the team behind them. That’s when you see lives change.”

This is the 13th home Ms Janson has sold through Mr Fotaras.

“Bernadette knows exactly what buyers want and delivers it,” Mr Fotaras said. “Bernadette knows exactly what buyers want, and this is just blocks away from the heart of Crown St, tram line, central, new Toga Surry Hiils village. This is appealing to lots of Surry Hills buyers.”

2/9-19 Nickson Street, Surry Hills is for sale by auction on October 31 at 9am with a price guide of $1,250,000
