Century-old estate ‘Estrilda’ hits market for first time in 105 years

Raised in an original Queenslander on the acreage, Ms Lanham spent 79 years living on the estate, with only a brief 10-year period living away in Ipswich with her husband before returning to the sanctuary of the family land.

Ms Lanham’s grandfather, a bird enthusiast who built an on-site aviary and bred prize-winning canaries, named the estate ‘Estrilda’ after the genus of finches.

In the decades following 1936, the land contributed to the area's thriving poultry and dairy farming tradition, complete with a family cow from which Ms Lanham made fresh butter.

Her father later completed a major subdivision in 1998, creating nine distinct lots while preserving lot #268 as the central .6 hectare family haven.
