Top Adelaide agent opens own Ray White business
One of Adelaide’s most experienced real estate professionals has realised his long held dream of business ownership with Australasia's leading group.
One of Adelaide’s most experienced real estate professionals has realised his long held dream of business ownership with Australasia's leading group.
Andrew Downing is now operating as principal and lead agent of the new Ray White Adelaide CBD office.
Mr Downing said it was the quiet time to reflect during the COVID-19 pandemic that helped him take the leap into opening his own business.
“Ray White has a fresh young vibe in Adelaide, but also has the experience and depth to help support their business owners,” he said.
“I have always focused on the CBD and city fringe region, and it was a perfect opportunity to bring the brand here and open myself up to bigger possibilities.”
Mr Downing commenced his career in real estate 15 years ago, and over the years has worked his way up to having the highest market share in the region.
A plumber by trade, he had also always been heavily involved in triathlons. After an accident while training in 2004, he was out of action and unable to work. The accident ended up changing his career trajectory dramatically.
“During that year, I was given a lot of time to evaluate what I wanted to do with my career and what my next steps were,” Mr Downing said.
“We were selling our house at the time, and I always had a really keen interest in real estate.”
As soon as he was able to, he obtained his real estate license and got trained up, approaching agencies for work experience and eventually landing a role as a sales consultant.
‘I have never looked back; I love what I do and I am passionate every day about helping people reach their property goals,” he said.
The inner city region of Adelaide is home to a broad mix of housing, from apartments to townhouses, cottages and bigger homes.
“I have built up a number of repeat clients who may have started in an apartment 15 years ago, but I have gone on to sell their second and third homes in the city fringe region,” he said.
“That is why I love this area; it is such a mix, and it is never boring.”
Besides investors, the main demographic of those looking to the city and the inner Adelaide market are first home buyers, downsizers and city professionals who all love the convenience of having the community and work on their doorstep.
“We are seeing more and more owner occupiers; there is a real appeal to having the security of inner city living, as well as being able to walk or catch the tram everywhere,” he said.
“We are very fortunate to have some amazing architecture within the CBD which includes many wonderfully restored character homes of well over 120 years old all adding to the charm of our beautiful city.”
Mr Downing will commence his business from the Ray White corporate hub where the Ray White SA/NT corporate team will support him. The initiative has proven to be a very successful business model for ambitious agents who are ready to start their own business.
He said that the main goal for him in his first year of business ownership will be to establish himself under the new brand, and continue to provide an excellent level of service to existing and new clients.
“Recruitment will come once we have established ourselves more; I am always open to bringing an exceptional individual into my team,” he said.
Ray White SA / NT CEO Matt Lindblom was thrilled to welcome Andrew Downing to the Ray White family.
“Andrew and I have known each other for almost 5 years now and through that time Andrew has always shown the utmost professionalism, providing expert advice to all of his clients in the Adelaide CBD given his experience in this growing market,” Mr Lindblom said.
“He has achieved so much already with an independent agency, so we look forward to seeing Andrew thrive with the added technology, marketing, training and corporate support that comes with the biggest real estate brand in Australia.”
“We are incredibly proud to have Andrew onboard, and can’t wait to see what he will achieve.”
