SPRING selling season has kicked off early this year with the first of the big trophy homes in Brisbane just hitting the market.

This Harry Poulos designed award-winning riverfront mansion in Brisbane’s leafy western suburbs at Chelmer - owned by TJ Peabody and his wife Kim, has just been listed by prestige property specialists Matt Lancashire and Meaghan Bakker of Ray White New Farm.

The heir to one of Australia’s biggest fortunes said he was selling his immense seven bedroom home which includes two self contained guest houses and a championship tennis court now to repay his father Terry Peabody who famously stepped in to help him out after the closure of his dining empire.

“This is not a fire sale. I don’t have to sell and there’s no pressure from my father but I want to do it,” said TJ Peabody, who has owned 89 Longman Terrace, Chelmer for the last 15 years.

“All of my previous venues are now up and running by other people after I shut them all down and sold them to new restaurateurs.

“The truth is there’s no pressure from my father or mother. We are not doing this because we have to, we are doing this because we want to and the time is right for Kim and I to downsize.

“It’s well known that my family helped me with my debts and in fact - they are prepared to help me forever - but at the end of the day I want to pay dad back.

“I want to clean the slate and continue to enjoy life. I don’t owe any bank any money but I do want to pay back my father who helped me.”

TJ and Kim Peabody, who have four children, say now was the perfect opportunity for them to downsize now as the kids were getting older.

Over the last four years Mr Lancashire has broken the Brisbane house price record three times and he’s sold the top six out the top 10 homes across Brisbane in this period too.

The top agent said there had been a marked increase in demand for high end homes since the post Federal Election.

“Confidence is high right now heading into the traditional Spring selling season. I currently have 17 A-grade buyers on my books looking to buy above $10M+,” Mr Lancashire said.

“This house is beautifully crafted and even has a slate roof which was built by the same master craftsman from Ireland who did Windsor Palace after its fire.

“You would be hard pressed to find a better house in Queensland that has been built to this level. The detail is quite amazing.”

All the cabinetry in the award-winning house was crafted by famed high end woodworkers at RW Joiners of Toowoomba.

The Welsh slate roof was built by hand with 34 pitches, and the exterior stone walling and fireplace was sourced from the Clutha River in Central Otago, New Zealand.

The best premium materials and technology have been incorporated to create a unique 2,401sq m oasis which also features a championship-size floodlit tennis court, mosaic-tiled heated swimming pool, and a pontoon with power and water.

The house is for sale via expressions of interest, closing Friday September 20.
