Whether you have recently acquired heritage real estate in Sydney or you have been a longtime owner of a historic residential property in the harbour city, it can often be fun to learn about who previously lived in your home and how the property may have changed over time.

As part of the National Trust Heritage Festival, a sold-out workshop - Researching Your House's History - will be hosted at Glebe Library on May 11 by historian Shelley Fitzgerald from 10:30 until 12:30.

This session, which was developed in partnership with the City of Sydney's History Unit, will focus on tips that can help people research the background of their homes. In particular, publicly available resources like the Sands Sydney Directory can help you track down important information about land titles. Other online tools, such as those available through the City of Sydney Archives website, can prove to be useful as you carry out your research.

Heritage buildings, said Sydney lord mayor Clover Moore, "are an important part of Sydney's character" and play an important role in defining the look and feel of the harbour city.
