The renovation portion of The Block: All Stars has come to a close with the couples completing their exteriors, ending their do over of four heritage pieces of residential real estate.

A main feature of their properties is the backyards, with each area reflecting the priorities and styles of all four couples.

Newlyweds Josh and Jenna's simple and elegant design reflected their approach to their entire house, with "minimalist" the buzzword of the last six weeks. The judges were deeply impressed by the couple's design of the backyard, especially with the shower head around the side of the house, reflecting the proximity to one of the country's most famous beaches. Josh's outdoor kitchen also reaped praise from the experts - with the benchtop, inset barbecue and sink showing how user friendly the outdoor area is.

Landscaper Dale really outdid himself when designing Mark and Duncan's backyard, as he went for a tropical feeling with fishponds and luxurious plants throughout. A lovely birdcage was placed in the corner, and a boardwalk was laid along parts of the yard to provide an exploration feel. The judges felt that the design hit the right note of being a well-designed garden with a hint of quirkiness - a balance that Duncan has been trying to achieve from the word go.

Mum and dad duo Phil and Amity's backyard continued with their idea of trying to make the property feel as family friendly as possible. The large patch of grass was bordered by planter boxes, and even then Amity selected plants that wouldn't be spiky and therefore safe for kids. The judges felt the well-executed room finished the house off nicely, as the theme of the property was maintained from the front door to the backyard.

Boyfriend and girlfriend team Dan and Dani also took a simple approach to their backyard, with a square bit of grass and plants lining the fence. The feature piece of the area was the outdoor shower, which was placed underneath a frangipani tree. The couple felt that the shower underneath a flowering tree would add a tranquil feel to their area.

Both Phil and Amity and Duncan, Mark and Dale won - tying on 35.5 points - with Josh and Jenna coming in third on 34, while Dan and Dani were last on 30 points.

Despite having finished the renovation, the competition is not yet over as the auctions still have to take place. The winner will be determined by the auction results, with all teams entitled to keep whatever is made over the reserve price.
