One of the nicest things about owning real estate in Sydney is taking an active role in community life - and whether you have recently moved to the Pittwater area or you are a longtime resident, there are new opportunities to help energise your place of residence.

Pittwater Council is accepting expressions of interest from residents from the area - including Sydney's Northern Beaches - for two positions on a new leadership group. The group will help to inform the council's new Enliven Pittwater program, which aims to bring new energy to the area's village centres.

Melinda Hewitt, Pittwater Council's acting manager for community, library and economic development, said the council is seeking out a community representative, as well as an arts and cultural representative with a background in this field.

She said: "This project will aim to energise our street life, promote our local business and deliver exciting cultural sites."

The role of the community representative, she added, could be particularly appealing to a younger adult and she urged those under the age of 30 to apply - applications will be accepted by Pittwater Council until the close of business on May 28.

The positions are well suited to those who own real estate in the area, as they require a two-year commitment to attend bi-monthly meetings.
