A Victorian Federation style home, initially named ‘Dalzell’ - after the man who built the property - has come to market in North Sydney with Ray White Lower North Shore selling agent Helen Noble.
This iconic home has evolved into a 10+ bedroom dwelling and has over the past 60 years, been utilised as a hostel for the disadvantaged.
The home has a vast history, having been built in the late 1800’s by the man who became North Sydney’s very first doctor, Dr. Robert Dalzell Ward, and has been occupied by organisations such as the Sydney City Mission, and the Salvation Army in its long history.
Helen said the property is rich in history, and offers a fabulous opportunity for a broad range of buyers with its 594 sqm and Residential A2 (low density) zoning.
“There is an interesting story behind this property steeped in history, and it offers a brilliant location as well as land size for this particular area,” she said.
Dr Robert Dalzell Ward arrived in Sydney on April 9 1852 as surgeon of the vessel “David McIvor” and settled on the north shore, becoming the first doctor in North Sydney after he opened his surgery in Berry Street. In addition to his medical work, he had a keen interest in photography and was president of the Sydney Amateur Photographic Society.
The home was later named ‘Clifton House’ after it was acquired by the Sydney City Mission in 1950 and became a hostel.
