One of Australia’s leading horticulturalists and gardening authors, Mary Moody, is selling her idyllic country escape in Yetholme, east of Bathurst.
The historic 8.09haa property known as ‘Glenray Park’ is being offered for sale via auction by Ray White Emms Mooney Director Patrick Bird.
Mr Bird said Ms Moody has lived on the charming property for more than a decade, farming livestock and working hard to develop an extensive ornamental garden.
Ms Moody has decided to sell the property following her husband David Hannay’s death last year.
“I have decided, with sadness, to sell Glenray Park and move back to the Blue Mountains to be with our youngest son and his family,” she said.
“Yetholme has been such a marvellous environment for our 11 grandchildren, allowing them the freedom to roam and connect with the natural world.
“For this reason I am keeping a small block of land where I intend to build an eco-cottage that will allow me to maintain my Bathurst and Yetholme connections.”
Mr Bird said the majestic five bedroom, two bathroom triple brick homestead was designed as a comfortable family home and featured a large country kitchen, five fireplaces, Oregon doors and marble edgings surrounding each veranda.
“One of the most charming aspects of this property is its 1920’s community dance hall, which was built as a meeting place for the Yetholme community and could easily be transformed into an artist’s studio,” he said.
“The farm is surrounded by an ornamental park-like garden and is a manageable size with permanent water and solar infrastructure.”
Mr Bird said the property also featured a park-like nursery and extensive poultry yards for geese, ducks and chickens.
“Frying Pan Creek runs through the front of the property and there are two dams and an underground spring that provide water for the farm, even in times of drought,” he said.
“Glenray Park represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to secure a truly beautiful piece of land and history located just 2.5 hours to Sydney’s CBD.
“We anticipate a lot of enquiry for this particular property and urge all prospective buyers to attend the auction and get in fast to avoid disappointment.”
Glenray Park will be auctioned at the Ray White auction rooms in the Sydney CBD at 10:30am (AEST) on Friday, April 24, 2015.
