THE Ray White Group has just hosted it’s three day Leadership Academy in Sydney for its corporate team and leading business owners to learn from one of the world’s most accomplished academics about organisational behaviour.
In its third year the jam-packed sessions were led by Professor Boris Groysberg of the Harvard Business School, renowned academic and author of the award-winning book Chasing Stars: The Myth of Talent and the Portability of Performance.
A lifelong student of business management, Ray White Group chairman Brian White said there was a big difference between leadership and management.
“Ambition is very much tied in to leadership. But the difference between being a leader and a manager is as broad as the ocean. A manager has a job to do but a leader sees the potential of what impact he or she can have,” Mr White said.
Professor Groysberg, a frequent contributor to Harvard Business Review, has written many articles and case studies on how firms hire, engage, develop, retain, and communicate with their talented employees.
“A lot of the conversations we had at the Ray White Leadership Academy were ‘how can we get the best out of the people who work for us?,” Professor Groysberg said.
“A significant part of leadership is asking if you are creating a multiplier effect.”
The 115 year old Ray White Group continues to set sales and market records across Australia and New Zealand and is driven by its determination to grow and attract the best talent to its brand.
In his pursuit of excellence, Mr White said there was “always something new to learn”.
“A key takeout from these sessions was the increased confidence that I can have a greater impact that I ever really thought was going to be my potential. Boris’ sessions with our leadership team have instilled a sense of confidence that our leaders can achieve more than they ever thought was possible.”
Ray White Group director Dan White said his family-owned business was not just in the property industry, “we are in the leadership business”.
“We are continually looking to provide the Ray White environment that all our businesses can thrive and grow and fulfil their potential in the industry,” Mr White said.
“It is something that we hold true as a family, the concept of constant improvement. We think that holds true for leadership as much as any skill.”
