An iconic landmark that was once a post office, general store and gallery is on the market and is being marketed through Trish Davie of Ray White Ferntree Gully.

Known as the Kalorama Tea House, this iconic mountain tea house dates back to 1904 with its current owners there for 33 years.

This unique property will give anyone the chance to become part of the wonderful Mt Dandenong community and tradition,”said marketing agent Trish.

“The sale includes the cafe building, a separate studio/shop with income potential and the classic home at the rear.

“Features include a commercial kitchen, toilets, generous seating area and a covered front porch where diners can enjoy views of the Silvan Dam.”

Maria Varellas is the current owner and has been there since 1984 but the actual business has been operating since 1980.

“We were out for a family drive one day and I saw the general store business was for sale,” said Maria.

“I instantly fell in love with the view and felt that owning and operating a business in such a beautiful place was a wonderful way to raise a family.

“So slowly, I transformed the space into a tearoom with a gallery space and kept the general store operating separately.”

When Maria bought the business it was a general store, newsagency, state bank agency, had two tables for serving Devonshire Teas and the property also housed the Kalorama Post Office.

“After an uncountable number of scones made and 33 years of living with one of the most spectacular views in Melbourne, it is simply time to retire.”

The property will go to auction on 21 November 2013.
