On Saturday 3 August, Ray White Whitsunday held a gala ball at the Coral Sea Resort and raised $25k for Whitsundays Marketing and Development Limited (WMDL) and the Choose Airlie campaign run by Jo Sweeney from Zest Design.

Ray White principal Mark Beale said WMDL's 'liveability' campaign and Choose Airlie were chosen as recipients because "by donating fundraising to them it will have a direct effect on the Whitsundays".

"We wanted to donate to a local cause that everybody could benefit from and these campaigns are about getting people to live here and see what a beautiful place this is," he said.

"If we get another 10,000 people living here, we won't have to rely on tourism so much and that's a direct correlation with real estate as well.

WMDL chief executive officer Danial Rochford thanked Mr Beale and his Ray White team saying the money would be "truly appreciated".

"Funds raised will help us get the word out that the Whitsundays is a great place to live and work and in particular will go towards funding the printing of more of WMDL's new regional liveability document which is soon to be launched," he said.

Ms Sweeney echoed these sentiments saying she was excited and proud that the part of the proceeds would be going to the Choose Airlie campaign.

"The $12,500 will be used for the creation of TV commercials to air in the drive by market, with the theme of wanting everyone to choose Airlie. The TV commercials will focus on increasing awareness of people to live, invest and play in Airlie Beach," Ms Sweeney said.

In addition to its role as a fundraiser, Mr Beale said the ball was also a lot of fun and a very positive night.
"The whole idea was to have fun, get dressed up and if we could raise money, then great."
