Renovators, investors and developers have shown interest in the 1082 Nepean Highway, Highett property, which is being marketed by Ray White Bentleigh and Carnegie director Tom Grieve.

Listed as having five bedrooms and one-bathroom, Mr Grieve said the 724 sqm property goes to auction on 2 August with a price guide between $1.2M-$1.3M.

Mr Grieve said the double-storey brick building still featured an original jail cell in the backyard.

"This is a rare and unique oppportunity - the jail cell is an intriguing remnant of the station's historical past that adds character and conversation to the site," Mr Grieve said.

He said the current owner had bought the property in 1994 as a commercial asset.

The property, which has been rezoned by council for residential use, is ideal for buyers who want to purchase in the growth zone, Mr Grieve said.

“Subject to council approval, someone could build three to four townhouses here, or it could be ideal for someone who wants to renovate the property, which is solid and has good bones.

“The jail cell has a concrete toilet in the corner, so it could be turned into a unique Airbnb, maybe!”
