“It was pretty epic,” says former GWS player (2015-2016) Joel Patfull about seeing his team make it to the AFL Grand Final. “To see how well they’ve been playing, and see them go through – yeah it’s great.”

Mr Patfull had a career in the game for several years, including a time with the Brisbane Giants (2006-2014), where in 2012 he was awarded the Brisbane Lions Club Champion. It was during this time that he bought his first house.

“It was just a little Queenslander in Morningside,” he says. “I’ve always liked older houses.”

After that renovation, he felt the need to move it up a notch, and bought 73 Browne Street in New Farm.

Once a fairly lacklustre Queenslander, the Patfull touch has transformed the property. Now the vibrant property is sleek and modern with a gleaming pool and an open plan kitchen full of Miele appliances, leading to not just the lounge room but also a huge deck.

“I was looking for a bigger project – and this house needed a lot of work,” says Mr Patfull.

The renovation was a passion project, one in which he was fully involved, and in the end one that he is very pleased with.

“Queenslanders are so adaptable,” says the renovator. Despite hard work, he feels renovating this style of house, and “making them look like they should” is rewarding.

The next property step is in the planning stages. Mr Patfull and his fiancé, stylist and Instagram star Elle Ferguson have moved South.

“We’ve moved to Sydney, where we hope to get into the real estate market again,” says Mr Patfull, although it’s proving to be a challenging move. The couple have been living in North Bondi, which has given them a taste for the Sydney beachside life.

“We’ve kind of fallen in love with being able to just walk to the beach, but beachside property is expensive,” he said.

The couple will return to Brisbane with Ms Ferguson adding a few final styling touches, but then the work is left to Ray White New Farm’s Josh Brown.

“He did a great job with the house,” says Mr Brown, “and as Joel says, New Farm is a great area.”
