He was three things at 23: a university drop out, a part-time “foot fit” specialist at a sneaker store and part-time garden nursery worker. Brendan Lappan, 37, was a long way from the heights of his career today. His girlfriend, now wife, called it out. She thought he’d make a fantastic real estate agent. Turns out, she was right. Even though the market was not his friend in the beginning, today he’s a Chairman’s Elite, the 2018 number ten salesperson internationally, a proud founding member of Ray White Macarthur Group and a partner in one of the company’s biggest businesses. And his goals for 2019 are bigger than ever.

Five quick questions with Brendan Lappan

  • What time do you have breakfast and what do you eat? A coffee before training before 5am; then a protein shake and banana at 7.15am… then I’m starving by 11am so I have an early lunch.
  • What’s the most unusual property you have listed? Emily Cottage in Campbelltown is 200 years old and said to be haunted by the daughter “Emily” of the gate-keeper. She was said to have fallen down the steep staircase inside and died. Even during daylight it was eerie and spooky but full of history.
  • What do you want to achieve next year? For the last several years I’ve done over 100 sales in a calendar year, I want to hit 150 but really make a name in the prestige and acreage market in Macarthur region. That means a shift in my branding and marketing strategy.
  • What advice would you give to new agents? Know that when you look at senior guys writing the bulk of the revenue in your office, that it was never easy for them at the start either. Maintain the rage for a few years; it does get easier. Just ask the right questions and seek advice.
  • What’s something you actively have to stop yourself from doing? Stop thinking. Meditation is key to that. There can be so much mental clutter. Numbers, goals, targets. Sometimes you just have to stop.
