There are a lot of considerations when you are looking to buy a house - location, proximity to parks and other recreational aspects affect your decision- but one major point for many home buyers is often quality of education.

In the case of Toowoomba, it is experiencing a revival in the learning sector with state education minister John-Paul Langbroek vowing to make the state's reputation for teaching excellence in line with Cambridge and Oxford in the United Kingdom.

"Toowoomba is known locally as a centre of excellence in education, but the challenge now is to broadcast that message to the rest of Australia and the world."

Education providers, the local community and businesses have offered their support to the education capital initiative.

"The garden city is ideally suited to adopt the profile as an education hub with its beautiful environment, quality lifestyle and plenty of room to expand for families and businesses," he said.

Home buyers may also be interested to know that house prices in the Toowoomba region recently posted their second quarter of positive results with median house prices increasing by 3.8 per cent to $299,000.

The Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ) report released on Sunday (August 19) showed house prices across the sunshine state have remained stable despite low sales.
