One of the original Blue Mountains guest houses, built in 1888, is on the market with a price expectations above $2.5million.

The iconic Blackheath property, named ‘Yabba Yabba’, was built circa 1888 and records show it continued to operate as a guest house until 1967.

“The property underwent renovations in the 1930s so that it could remain operating as a guest house,” says selling agent Peter Torok of Ray White Blackheath.

“After many changes in ownership, a family purchased the home in 1987 as their private residence. With assistance from the Council’s Heritage Adviser, they have had significant success at conserving the house and garden.

“The current owner is Robert Davis, managing director of RED Industries. He purchased Yabba Yabba in 2005,” Peter said.

Featuring 100 year old gardens, the property sits on one acre of land and is heritage listed.

“It’s been superbly restored and combines 19th century architecture with the luxuries of modern day living.

“The residence features 11 private bedrooms each with its own marble ensuite and parking for 23 cars.

“There’s a full commercial kitchen, 20 seat dining room, media room, old world drawing room with open fireplace and a formal ballroom with French doors opening out to the huge entertaining deck and fish pond,” Peter explains.

One of Blackheath’s earliest original guesthouses, Peter says Yabba Yabba is a landmark of the area.

“The is one of the most recognised properties of the area. This is an opportunity to secure a slice of local history.”

The property at 179 Wentworth Street, Blackheath is going to auction on 2 November 2014.
