This International Women’s Day, we are shining a light on the women that make Ray White Commercial great. Get to know one of our top women, Ray White Commercial Northern Corridor Group agent Julie Ryan.
Why real estate and how did you start in the industry?
People love to talk about property, so it is an excellent way to have something relevant to say to a lot of people.
I started out selling ‘site unseen’ Port Douglas & Cairns land to people working in remote mining towns.
How does your usual day look?
Early starts, around 4:30am help me to fit more into my day. I believe in creating your own mind-set and I listen to audio books while I exercise. After that, I alternate days in the office and days of meetings and inspections. I find alternating what I do means I spend less time going back and forth and more time being productive. Most days finish around 6.00pm, unless we have something on the go.
Tell me about something you have done in the business that you are proud of?
Being a client’s trusted advisor is always an honour. That simple honor feels significant to me every time.
What’s the one thing you know now, that you wish you knew when you first started out?
It is a people business, not a property business. I see myself as helping people to make good decisions about property. If you can help someone have clarity about the choices they have in front of them, then that is empowering for them, and great for long-term relationships.
Where do you see yourself in the next 12 months?
Working with even more shopping centres under construction; we love working with people while they are still in the design and tenancy mix phase.
What are your goals?
To be invited into more and more deals where we have the opportunity to show how we ‘punch above our weight’ and deliver results on any size asset.
Are there any other Ray White women who inspire you and why?
Sonya Treloar is an inspiration to many, as our most successful residential salesperson I find Sonya’s work ethic, care for people and energy to be wonderful to be around. While there are many differences between residential and commercial, the things that make top people stand out tend to be the same.
What advice would you give to women starting out in the industry?
Invest energy and focus on getting to know one part of your market better than anyone else, then people will end up turning to you for the insights you can offer them.
