This International Women's Day, we are shining a light on the women that make Ray White great. Get to know one of our top women, Ray White Aspley Group agent Angela Duncan.

Why real estate and how did you start in the industry?

I started at 15 years old and admittedly at the time thought selling real estate meant you had a Mercedes and a lot of time off (haha). I first began a school based traineeship so I worked on reception Mondays and Saturdays instead of going to school in grade 11 and 12. When I finished high school a Ray White office had an ad on seek for a sales cadets so I began a three day trial and never looked back.

How does your usual day look?

It's all about extreme organisation and accountability!

  • 5am: Gym
  • 7am: Drop off my two and four year olds to daycare
  • 7.30am: In the office
  • 8.30am - 3.30pm: Back to back phone calls and meetings
  • 4pm - 6pm: Pick up and time with my kids - dinner and bath time
  • 7pm: two nights a week, I head back to work for meetings and inspections or jump online for calls and emails.

What do you enjoy most about being with Ray White?

The networking, the benchmarking and the marketing. The comfort people have when you introduce yourself.

What makes real estate different?

There is nothing like it - it's completely addictive, even with the highs and the lows. There is absolutely no limit to the opportunities available.

Tell me about a unique success story?

Recently we achieved a handful of sale prices more than a year's income above expectations. When you think of it in scale like that rather than just a figure on paper, it’s life changing for their families and directly resulting from the way we handled their business and capitalising on the market, not just taking an easy deal. I want every client to feel like that!

What’s the one thing you know now, that you wish you knew when you first started out?

I started so young and I’ve been learning from day one - persevere, you control the pace of your growth. Stick to the basics, consistently and make sure you are clear with yourself on your own definition of success.

Where do you see yourself in the next 12 months?

Continuing to improve the balance in my life with such a full on business and young family.

What are your goals?

Be an awesome mum/wife, work really hard and enjoy the ride. This year will be the first year I hit Chairman Elite, I really want to aim for #1 in settled transactions in Queensland. Last year I was #2 so you’ve always got to keep driving forward.

Are there any other Ray White women who inspire you and why?

Every woman in real estate inspires me. It’s such an amazing advantage to work with clients, juggle our crazy lifestyles and a huge strength that I believe most women can be both tough negotiators as well as calm and empathetic for all clients.

What advice would you give to women starting out in the industry?

Being female is a strength not a weakness. Never apologise for being a powerful freaking woman.
