A rare opportunity has just hit the market in dress circle New Farm.

The last remaining vacant northeast riverfront land in the inner city blue chip suburb is available now with or without the purchase of landmark heritage house called Amity.

Ray White New Farm principal Matt Lancashire said this historic colonial property at 101 Welsby St, New Farm sat across three lots, elevated and terraces from the Brisbane River.

“Purchase the 672sq m of vacant land for future development or secure the entire 2127sq m estate with its spectacular 30m frontage to Bulimba Reach. This opportunity will never ever be seen again,” Mr Lancashire said.

For sale via an expression of interest campaign closing November 15 at 5pm, if not sold prior.

Exceptionally located and extremely private, the classic Queenslander was built by prominent Brisbane figure Thomas Welsby in 1892 and remains truly original to this day.

Thomas Welsby left his mark in a number of ways on Amity including the orientation of the house to the river, the terraced gardens to the water’s edge and compass points etched in the front path.

New Farm’s iconic grand timber villa has been beautifully maintained by its owner and noted architect Tony Dempsey since 1997, well before the area’s total urban renewal.

“I have had a long-standing fascination with old Queenslanders and Amity is an atypical Queenslander with its beautiful verandahs, outstanding view and ideal north-east orientation,” Mr Dempsey said.

“I instantly recognised Amity as a special house. This is actually the first time that I haven’t lived in a house that I didn’t design myself. There is also an outstanding opportunity for someone’s creativity as the vacant block is an amazing piece of land.”

“The potential here is limitless.”

Amity was first sold in 1952, and subsequently purchased by the Commonwealth in 1980, as Queensland’s principal naval residence.

Amity was built in 1892 fronting the Bulimba Reach of the Brisbane River to the northeast and with access from Welsby Street to the northwest. It is a single-storey chamferboard residence with timber stumps and a hipped corrugated iron roof with cast iron ridge cresting called a “widow’s walk”.

The residence has verandahs on three sides fronting the river, and a later addition at the rear which has sub-floor office and car accommodation.

Last sold more than 20 years ago, the Dempseys have loved its notable features such as wide river-facing verandas for years and original stained glass but now is the time to downsize.

Within walking distance of the CBD and in the heart of Brisbane’s hottest lifestyle precinct.

Amity offers but is not limited to:
