Whether selling on behalf of a dear family member or making an unexpected and lifelong connection to a vendor, we asked a handful of our agents about the most meaningful sale of their career.

"Nila and I bought a tired 1950s home on a big slice of land in 2017; not far from our Remuera office. We knocked it down to make way for a Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired mid-century modern design home. Lockdowns slowed our progress but the wait was worth it, our gorgeous new home was finally completed in mid-2022.

Just as it was nearing completion, a heritage-listed Remuera home that we had admired for years surprisingly came onto the market for the first time in 22 years.

On a whim, we bought a home we never thought we could afford. We were then faced with having to sell our brand-new home in a market that wasn't exactly buoyant. It wasn't an easy decision but we decided to market and sell our home ourselves. A far-reaching digital and print marketing campaign attracted 10 registered bidders and produced an emotionally-charged auction that certainly bucked an unwelcome trend of several auctions passing in recently. Building such a beautiful zen-like home on the side of a 34,000-year-old volcano ranks as one of our greatest achievements - topped only by its very successful auction sale to a very nice family that is sure to cherish it as much as we did."

"Being given the opportunity to sell a high end asset is a milestone in anyone's real estate career. To be appointed as the selling agents and represent the White family estate was both an honour and a privilege. There is a lot of history that is contained within the property and also special memories for the White Family.

Marketing the property was one thing, but being able to secure a market leading result for Brian, Rosemary and the family was a transaction we are extremely proud of and will be a highlight for the rest of our careers.

Competition creating is at the forefront of how we conduct our business and being able to showcase this with the White family's campaign was special. We thank Brian and Rosemary for their continued support."

"In 2020 I went to appraise a very unique property that was much loved by its owner. It was a 33 year old, double storey cottage style home in original condition. The vendor and I really got along - we both appreciated the quality of the property.

We put a plan in place to have the roof resprayed and a few little aesthetic touch ups done to the home in hope to list as soon as Spring started in September 2020. She began work on the property and employed our recommended tradesmen to complete the tasks we set out to complete in order to prepare the property for sale.

During this time she was diagnosed with terminal cancer and passed away in early 2021, due to COVID I couldn't visit her and communication was difficult - her son (whom I had never met) called me in March 2022 and asked me to come and list her property, he explained what had happened and told me that his mother requested I'd be only person to sell her home.

I sold the property in May 2022 at Auction with Tim Snell for a record price and it really just hit home for me."

"My clients John and Denise purchased their home in Cheltenham in 1996 for $170,000. They raised their young family at the property and spent many happy years at the home. In 2021, they decided it was time to move on and sell the home and buy a property in Gippsland and opt for a tree change.

After meeting several agents, they appointed me for no other reason but we just got along extremely well. Based on a lot of the feedback, they decided on setting the reserve at $1.25 million.

That amount of money was more than enough for them to purchase the next property and have some savings left over. The auction day was spectacular with eight interested parties and the bidding was furious. The final sale price was $1,663,000 which meant it was more than $400,000 over their reserve. They were so over the moon and I got the best phone call on Monday that any agent could ask for. Denise called me Monday morning and said “I just wanted to let you know, I have just filed my resignation at work and decided to retire, thanks for the great result you got us on Saturday.

I still think of this all the time and it is one of the best stories and it is very close to my heart. Subsequently we ended up selling Denise‘s mother‘s property as well the following year for a great result."
