As we come towards the end of the year it's a good time to take stock of the last 12 months and see how you’ve fared so you can start planning for the next 12 months. Did you experience any cyber incidents? Any near misses?
A new strategy that has been talked about recently is the idea of resiliency. If a significant incident occurred, what would be the impact to your business? For instance, if the incident took all of your business offline, would you be able to fully recover or would you have to stop operating, even for the short term? Being resilient is about being able to recover from such difficulties, and being able to recover quickly so your business is not impacted and you are able to continue servicing your customers.
When winter draws near, many of us don't think twice about getting the flu shot to protect ourselves from becoming sick. We also insure our cars and often pay higher premiums so we have quick access to a hire car if we have an accident. It's the same with your business, you need to ensure you have processes and strategies in place to keep the lights on and income flowing in the event of a crisis.
When talking cyber, the idea of being resilient takes many forms and there is no single silver bullet that will protect you from all disasters. However, a good place to start, is to be aware of the potential risks to your business, understanding all its parts, implementing systems to protect what you can and having a plan to mitigate any impact during a disaster so you can quickly recover and be up and running as quickly as possible. If you have those bases covered then you are in a good position to ride the wave of most hazards. There are numerous systems available to assist in protecting your business, please reach out if you need any assistance. We are happy to assist directly or recommend a partner who can step you through this process.
