A three bedroom architecturally designed home in Allambie Heights has been quickly snapped up almost a month before it was due to go to auction with Ray White Balgowlah selling agent Jacquelynn Watson.
The property was designed by award winning architect Peter Downes, who has worked on more than over 100 major projects across Sydney’s northern beaches and around the country.
Downes is the most awarded building designer in all of NSW, according to his website.
After the successful design of this property, Peter also designed a home in Palm Beach which was based on 19 Allambie Road, Allambie Heights.
The three bedroom, one bathroom property, a rarity in the suburb, had a price guide of $900,000 but sold for $1,061,500 to a local couple who lived just a street away.
“An architecturally designed home in Sydney with a price guide under one million dollars was not going to last long on the market,” she said.
According to the current owners, Rosemary and Ian Harris the pair would not even consider selling the property if they were not relocating to Cairns.
The octagonal home has a rooftop terrace and also features a garden for every time of the day, according to Rosemary, “due to the octagonal design, you can always find a spot for morning sun and afternoon sun.”
But, it’s the rooftop terrace that offered Rosemary her most memorable experiences in the home.
“I love new years eve in this house,” she said. “Sipping champagne on the rooftop terrace watching the fireworks with friends. No one has to worry about getting home, it’s private and the views are breathtaking.”
She noted that other unique aspects of the property included the tall pointed ceilings - with the only flat ceiling in the entire house in the kitchen - the light wells which offer natural light leading towards every bedroom, and the fact the house is nestled into a cliff, offering privacy and respite from the weather.
Rosemary admits the house is striking, something which no doubt her decorating has added a valuable contribution to.
“I’ve decorated really boldly including graffiti on the walls - it’s very modern.”
