Those searching for real estate in Canberra that has schools nearby may be interested to hear the territory government has opened a new early education school.

Joy Burch, ACT minister for education and training, yesterday (February 5) attended the opening of the Franklin Early Childhood School, which is a $30.1 million facility.

The centre caters to early education and child care and looks after children aged from birth up to year two, or about eight years of age.

Approximately 300 students will attend the facility and be taught between the preschool years onwards.

Ms Burch said this is the first purpose-built facility in the ACT and hopes parents will be very happy with it. She also listed a number of other new schools, including a second school - the Neville Bonner Primary School.

She explained: "Students are also enjoying Stage 1 of the $48.1 million Neville Bonner Primary School, and when Stage 2 is completed the enrolment capacity of the North Gungahlin region will increase to 818 student places.

"This first day of a new school year is a proud moment for every parent, and I wish all ACT students an exciting and successful 2013."
