State treasurer Christian Porter declared recently that Western Australia's economy has been driving growth for the entire country.

Referring to figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Mr Porter said that strong numbers in WA clearly prop up data for the rest of the nation.

"These statistics once again show that WA is the powerhouse of the national economy," he said.

A 14.5 per cent increase in the year to March 2012 reveals exceptional growth for the state, while demand growth has also seen a significant rise of 7.8 per cent rise in the same time period.

"With Australia’s domestic economic growth at five per cent in the year to March 2012, it is clear that WA’s resources industry is underpinning the rest of the country," he said.

While the significance to the overall economy is debatable, the figures clearly illustrate property investment opportunities for Australia's largest state.

With no signs of slowing down and strong economic fundamentals, resource development in WA is becoming more attractive for international companies.

Residential and commercial opportunities abound with the flow of new workers and expanding services in these mining areas.
