Following the overwhelming success of last year’s inaugural event which brought together 200 guests and raised an incredible $104,000, Ms Treloar is determined to make this year’s fundraiser on 25 September even bigger, setting an ambitious goal to raise another $104,000 for families facing the unimaginable.

For Ms Treloar, the cause hits close to home.

In 1996, while living in regional Bundaberg, Ms Treloar  tragically lost her premature baby boy, Blake (pictured above), at just six weeks old at Mater Mothers' Hospital.

Reflecting on that pivotal moment in her life, she experienced the painful absence of specialised grief support or facilities like Hummingbird House, where families can spend precious, unhurried time saying goodbye.

“My darling son Blake was born premature. He lived six weeks and then went to heaven," Ms Treloar said.

“I never had an opportunity to spend time with him at a fabulous facility like Hummingbird House.

“The day that he died, I said goodbye and they took him away. Having time to grieve, to hold them, and to be with them after they’ve passed is so important to be able to say your goodbyes properly.”

Hummingbird House provides a warm, home-away-from-home environment, offering specialised pediatric palliative care, respite, and end-of-life support for terminally ill children and their families across Queensland.

This year’s event promises an emotional and uplifting experience, featuring poignant guest speakers and courageously candid stories shared directly by families supported by Hummingbird House.

Ms Treloar said the event has resonated deeply across the community, touching those who have walked similar paths.

“I’ve had so many requests from guests who attended last year saying we have to do it bigger and better,” she said.

“I even received a letter from a lovely family whose baby went to heaven on September 25 last year.

“They want to be in the room to celebrate what Hummingbird House did for them and their family during such a difficult and sad time. That is why this work matters so much.”

The community is invited to support this heartfelt initiative to ensure Hummingbird House can continue to provide comfort, care, and cherished memories for Queensland families during their time of greatest need.
