Held by their parents for more than six decades, the property at the heart of a former pigeon-racing hub represents a rare “once-in-a-generation” transition for the neighbourhood.

The three-bedroom, one-bathroom brick home at 29 Hutchison Street, Rivervale in Western Australia is being marketed by Ray White Urban Springs sales agent Toby Huggins.

The property is set to go under the hammer on 14 March.

Bev and Diana described the sale of her family home as “emotional”.

“It’s where our father, a former milkman, once navigated these streets by horse and cart, and raised his champion racing pigeons,” they said.

“It’s the garden where our mother, even when later using a wheelchair, would supervise the planting from the sidelines.”

Diana and Bev said the pigeon club was only two doors down from their 972sqm property.

“When we walked home from school we would see dad racing his pigeons, there were big trucks out the front, it was a big thing,” they said.

The pair said their parents previously owned three other blocks on the street, however decided to sell them to fund Bev’s life-changing cleft surgery when she was a child.

“They always looked after us and put us first,” Bev and Diana said.

From their mother’s days working at the local bakery and decorating cakes at school, to their father working dual jobs at Main Roads and as a milkman, the home was a hub of hard work and humbleness.

The sisters remember when the floorplan was just a simple kitchen, lounge, and bedroom and techni-colour wool carpets.

“Mum had those carpets right through the house,” they said.

“Over the years, it evolved with major renovations taking place.

“There’s even a little cubby house down the back Diana and I used to play in when we were kids - it’s all very sentimental.

“Our home used to be a base for all family events, it was a beautiful family hub.”

Bev and Diana said the property, which is nearby shops and schools, has attracted a lot of interest, particularly from developers.
