Taking off the agent hat and throwing on his chef’s hat, the Gold Coast local took his viewers through a cooking demonstration that would make Jamie Oliver proud.
On the menu were traditionally made gyoza and wontons which Mr Guo learned to make from his parents.
(Wontons on the left are traditionally from southern China while the northern parts of China are known for gyoza on the right.)
“They are very traditional meals from my hometown in Sichuan and I’ve had quite an overwhelming response from my followers. A lot of my clients have sent me messages asking for the recipe,” Mr Guo said.
He was inspired to make his own cooking videos on Facebook because even in the current atmosphere, food is still important and still brings joy to people’s lives.
“It’s out of the box and it’s real, people are not just worried about their houses, they are worried about their health and what to do every day in lockdown,” Mr Guo said.
“On a more positive note, people can still embrace their daily lives including with food and it’s important for us to have family and be healthy.
“Food is still essential, that's why I thought I would do something that is healthy, interesting and fun. It’s also something that parents can involve their children in and spend time with them to make this food.”
Mr Guo’s number one tip is to always use fresh ingredients, from the filling to the pastry he said it always tastes better fresh.
As for serving, he recommends preparing the wontons in soup and either boiling or steaming the gyoza. If you prefer your gyoza pan fried, Mr Guo advised keeping an eye on the temperature because if it is too hot then it will burn the pastry and leave the meat raw.
