The Tallara estate in the hills of Kurrajong has all the character and charm of a country Georgian manor and is on the market for the first time in 18 years through Ray White North Richmond.

The property features all the high-end touches of a stately English home such as ornate gold leaf hinge wear, tranquil shaded walks and an abundance of French doors.

Tallara seller Gerard Hermens built the house in 2002 and said his inspiration for the design of the house came from the work of late Georgian and early Victorian architects.

“I did a lot of consultation with the architect and we went to visit country towns to look at houses that carried some of the architectural features of the period,” Mr Hermens said.

“I chose the style because it brought back a time of beautiful living with generous, large rooms that were airy and light filled - they were great to raise families in, to entertain and to enjoy a really lovely lifestyle and one that is hard to come by in today’s homes.”

The classical feel of the house isn’t the only reason Tallara is so special - it also sits atop one of the hills of Kurrajong and overlooks much of the wider Hawkesbury area.

“It’s sitting on a hill and gets 360 degree views which I think makes it, arguably, one of the nicest blocks in Kurrajong,” Mr Hermens said.

“The outside of this house is beautifully finished and it brings out gorgeous views of the mountains around the property.

“And while it’s close to the city, it’s also a beautifully quiet and tranquil setting - the block is set well off the road with its own driveway through security gates so it enjoys wonderful views and there’s no noise or impact by people around you.”

The gardens of Tallara have also been expertly designed and complement the Georgian and Victorian aesthetic of the house. Surrounding the house on more than 3.5 hectares of land, it is home to Japanese maples and a variety of magnolia species all chosen specifically to add to Tallara’s country manor charm.

“We used a landscape gardener to design the extensive gardens and there are some beautiful walks there, we have a magnolia walk with some interesting species of magnolias including a Himalayan champaca which is a type of magnolia and a number of other beautiful species,” Mr Hermens said.

“We have a maple walk which is full of beautiful Japanese maples and on hot days it’s very cool and very tranquil.

“There’s a camellia walk and there’s a lovely little plantation forest that runs down the hill along the house to provide shelter from the winds.

“There’s a lot of other beautiful species of trees across the property and it’s beautiful grassed - the turf is soft leaf buffalo which is fully irrigated with pop up irrigation.

“The garden is formally designed and there’s a plan that’s included for future development as the landscape architect had a vision for what it would look like in the next ten years.”

The property is part of a private water scheme with a massive irrigation licence to keep the gardens in wonderful condition.

Ray White North Richmond elite selling agent Cindy Cash said the house should attract buyers interested in owning a sought after, high end property.

“It’s part of a very upmarket estate and the property really matches this aesthetic,” Ms Cash said.

“We will likely get interest from an executive family or person for this house as it’s on par with the beautiful, upscale homes you’d find in Bowral.”

Tallara estate will be sold through auction on Saturday, April 4, 2020.
