WHAT do you get when you take a worker's cottage in Brisbane, lift it, renovate it within an inch of itself, triple its size then add in design touches inspired by the Hamptons, French Provincial and Plantation styles?

You get a grand yet liveable home at 45 Hayward St, Paddington that is made for families of all sizes who want to live in the inner city of Brisbane with its warm climate and laidback lifestyle.

This would have to be the most impressive example of a five bedroom Queenslander style home on the market today on an efficient 405sq m block.

The owners are experienced renovators with have an impeccable eye for detail who have created an incredible home with high street appeal with its stately sandstone entrance to its open-plan well-considered layout complete with ceiling roses and extensive use of stone throughout.

Interior stylist Natalie Winter and her husband Gerry Heffernan have added a stunning warmth and style to the house that they share with their beloved dog Snoopy.

Its outdoor kitchen comes complete with a gas fireplace next to the pool which features the same grey and black Moroccan tiles used throughout the wet areas in the house.

This house, which which will be featured in Home Beautiful magazine in December, has one of the best floors in Brisbane for its French Oak Wildwood aged timber parquetry flooring laid in a basket weave pattern and finished with a hardy matt product which leads to one of the best wooden staircases ever designed for its efficient use of space.

The floating staircase also provides seating for friends and guests to sharing a glass of something delicious near the chef in the kitchen, plus it’s also used as an art gallery feature.

Even the garden has been thoroughly planned with its watering system set on a timer to ensure the garden is cared for yet low maintenance.

From start to finish the renovation of the worker’s cottage on the corner block into a two story five bedroom home with four bathrooms took a year.

“When we started it was 100sq m under roof and nothing much to look at at first but we fell in love with the house for its good bones and we have 40 linear metres of street frontage which is amazing. We are also so close to Given Terrace yet it’s far enough away that there’s good parking and it’s close to the city too,” Ms Winter said, who owns Chasing Winter, an interior styling business plus she runs shopping tours to Bali for people to source their own furnishings.

“We always had a vision of how we could turn a cottage into a grand house on this block but it was a bold move,” Ms Winter said.

What’s so impressive about the house is its vast ceiling heights, some 3m downstairs in the main living and entertaining area to an almost cathedral like height in the master suite-like sanctuary at 5.5m.

“We wanted the master suite to feel like you were retreating to a sanctuary as if you are on holidays.”

The exterior wooden fretwork is dotted with tiny handcrafted trees inspired by a boutique hotel in Byron Bay which adds a resort-like feel.

The ultra chic house in Paddington is for sale by Christine Rudolph, marketing agent at Ray White New Farm and will be auctioned on-site by top Ray White auctioneer Haesley Cush on November 3 at 11am.
