Sellers move on from family home after queue for property paid off
Ray White Williamstown principal Joanne Royston can remember her parents lining up for more than a week to secure a property at Altona Meadows when the land became available in 1984.
The home, located at 8 Weeroona Terrace, is now up for auction 40 years later, with Joanne marketing the property on behalf of her parents, Loretta and David.
Joanne was 13 at the time of the purchase, and remembered her family’s determination.
“They lined up for eight days so they could secure a specific plot of land that backed onto the park,” she said.
“Both of my parents worked at the time, so my nana was involved and some of their family friends - they would all take turns to help keep their place in line.
“It was a really unique opportunity to secure those blocks that back onto the park land, they wanted to make sure they were in that perfect spot.
“They built the family home there, where I grew up, and Mum and Dad have lived there ever since.”
The campout for the blocks of land was well covered in the media at the time, and Joanne’s grandmother, Nesta Grimme (Grim) even featured in one of the stories (pictured below).
Now ready to downsize, Joanne’s parents have put the home on the market, and Joanne said it’s already received a lot of interest.
The four-bedroom, two-bathroom home is situated on a 622sqm block, backing onto the HD Graham Reserve.
“The interested buyers have all been young families so far,” Joanne said.
“It’s in a great location with a gate out to the parklands.
“Adjoining the parklands there is the local soccer grounds and a baseball park.
