Built circa 1941 and arguably Brisbane’s most historic home, an art deco style property sitting atop Highgate Hill is on the market.
Just over two weeks into its marketing campaign, selling agents Cathy and Madi Roche have already taken 85 groups through 81 Dornoch Terrace.
“Around half of the interest has come from Asian investors - either locally or interstate,” Cathy explains.
Built during World War II, just before the shortage of building materials and labour, which halted most construction in Brisbane until the late 1940s, the three-storey brick residence was designed by renowned architects of the era, Hall and Phillips.
“The residence is a valuable example of early post war architecture. The house is a three-story, terracotta brick building and is a testament to the quality of the work of Hall and Phillips,” Cathy explains.
“Thomas Hall, in particular, has been described as one of Brisbane’s most successful architects of the early 20th century. He was responsible for the Tattersall’s Club and worked on the Brisbane City Hall.”
The property was refurbished between 2008 and 2012 to combine the home’s period features with luxurious additions.
“Some of the standout features of the home are the soaring three metre ornamental ceilings and cornices and an original fireplace with marble mantlepiece,” Madi said.
The three bedroom, three bathroom home sits on 693m² of land in one of Brisbane’s most exclusive suburbs.
“Highgate Hill is one of the most prestigious suburbs in Brisbane. Properties are rare to come to market in the area because of the sought-after location.”
“This sale is an outstanding opportunity - the property comes with DA approved plans for further extensions to the home,” Madi concludes.
The auction of 81 Dornoch Terrace Highgate Hill will be held onsite on Saturday 18 October 2014 at 3pm.
