New Pathway A Welcome Addition To Sydney
Residents of Sydney may be pleased to discover a new development which will make cycling and walking from the inner city to the inner-western suburbs more enjoyable.
Residents of Sydney may be pleased to discover a new development which will make cycling and walking from the inner city to the inner-western suburbs more enjoyable.
Saturday (August 11) marked the opening of a shared trail along Johnstons Canal, which connects city dwellers living in and around Sydney Harbour to the nature spots on the fringes of the city in the west.
Lord mayor Clover Moore said the pathway provides residents with safe access between the city, Bicentennial Park and Glebe, to Wigram Road and Forrest Lodge.
Work has been done to improve the landscaping, paving, lighting and signage around the area to encourage people to take advantage of the new development.
"We want people to have better options for walking and riding bikes in our city, which is why we're investing in shared paths and a network of separated cycleways," she said.
A string of benches have been strategically placed along the track to allow visitors to take a moment to enjoy the scenery.
Eventually the path will link to the University of Sydney and the University of New South Wales.
The initiative was funded using a NSW government grant as part of the Sharing Sydney Harbour Access Program.
It has reconnected the parks along the foreshore with the rest of the city which will encourage residents to get out and explore the areas on the fringes of the city.
The opening of the canal path aims to increase the number of people using it as a cycleway and a footpath and make it easier to move around the city and fringe areas.
