Local councils met with planning minister Matthew Guy Wednesday (July 4) to make headway in the directional strategies for the Victorian capital.
"It is vital that we come together for these discussions so we can then progress the development of the strategy and engage with the wider community," Mr Guy said.
Meetings have been scheduled in the coming weeks and months for industry professionals, business leaders and local councils to convene and plan the city for modern demands.
"These forums will give direction to our discussions and will provide important information for our ultimate vision," Mr Guy said.
He explained that shaping the region into what residents want involves targeted planning and discussion.
"Planning for Melbourne’s liveability, economic growth, jobs and future investment needs to look not at the now, not at the next five years but for the next decade and beyond," Mr Guy said.
Diligent planning will make way for commercial and residential investment for years to come.
