Politicians local to the Redland Bay region are preparing to take on local business owners at the third annual Grass Roots bull ride.
Andrew Laming, member for Bowman, Steve Davies, member for Capalaba, and Redland City Councillors, Paul Gleeson, Julie Talty and Mark Edwards have all signed up to participate in this year’s bull ride.
Business owners going head to head with their local politcians include Nathan Romari from Barking Beautiful , Peter O’Connell of the Redland City Bulletin, Century 21 Redland Bay principal Ken Seeto and Ray White Redland Bay salesperson, Shaun Lennon.
“This is the first year that we’ve been able to convince our local pollies to jump on a bull and it’ll bring a lot of entertainment to the day,” said event organiser and principal of Ray White Redland Bay, Jesse James.
Held on the Australia Day long weekend the Grass Roots bull ride is now gaining international popularity.
“It will be an epic day – our biggest event yet. We now have supporters in Brazil, Mexico, Canada, USA and of course locally and across Australia,” Jesse explains.
“It’s become the biggest stand alone bull ride in the National Rodeo Association calendar and nearly doubled in numbers in the first two years: 67 grew to 110 bull riders and crowd numbers increased from 1800 to 2500.”
A community celebration at heart, the Grass Roots bull ride is an event of local pride.
“This year we have 30 local businesses, including Ray White Redland Bay, sponsoring the day. We are proud of where we live. We are proud of our community and as the Redland Bay business community we want to show our appreciation by saying thanks and putting on a day that families can enjoy together,” Jesse concludes.
