Ian and Sissy Bishop are putting their rare 75 acre Whitsundays property - Heaven’s Gate - to auction after nine years of ownership with Ray White Whitsunday selling agent Mark Beale in conjunction with Carol Carter of Gold Coast Sotheby’s International Realty.

The couple purchased the property for $4 million and have made some significant upgrades since purchasing. It is now on the market to be auctioned later this month with price expectations significantly reduced since initially put on the market.

The luxurious property, which they believe is Australia’s best beach house, was built almost a decade ago and was heavily based on a Hawaiian lifestyle. It has six bedrooms and bathrooms plus a separate caretaker’s apartment over two levels.

Originally from Birmingham, current owners, Ian and Sissy watched the property as it was built, and did not hesitate to snap it up once it hit the market.

“We saw it on the Monday, and bought it on the Tuesday,” said Ian.

Ian admits that the couple didn’t know how good the home actually was until after they bought it.

“It is such a beautiful big house in a wonderful gated community in such a magnificent part of the world,” he said.

Along with the luxurious home which sits on the land, the property also features a large wet edge pool and two heated spas, a private sandy beach, tennis court, cinema, gym, lift and even a helipad and hanger.

According to Ian, the location itself is unusual because it is one of the only places on the east coast of Australia where you can watch the sun set over the ocean, because of the curve of the bay.

“We have been sitting down with a glass of wine every single evening to watch the sun go down since we’ve been here.”

Ian said the home will offer the future buyer the most ideal seaside lifestyle, adding that not only is the water in the bay crystal clear every single day, but they also regularly get an up close glimpse into what nature has to offer including whale, dugong and turtle sightings, and regular access to oysters off the rocks and crayfish in the warm water.

Ray White Whitsunday agent Mark Beale said the home was a unique offering with many lifestyle inclusions that would be difficult to come by anywhere else in the world.

“This property is located in one of the most pristine places in the Whitsundays. The only passing traffic is boats, turtles and whales and, for the lucky new owner, the best seclusion and privacy around with only a 35 minute drive or 10 minute helicopter to the cosmopolitan Airlie Beach.”

Although Ian and Sissy are sad to leave their Heaven’s Gate villa - they’re not moving too far away - next door in fact. The couple also own the adjoining block of land which is the same size at 75 acres. They plan to build a Canadian log cabin there because they both love that style of living.
