Former cellar door transformed into country retreat hits the market

The four-bedroom vineyard property at 210 Krondorf Road, Krondorf is being marketed by Ray White Grange agent James Aubert and is set to go under the hammer on January 18.

Marty Powell and his partner Bruce have called the unique property home since 2013, when they purchased what was then an operating cellar door, known as Kabminye Winery, complete with a restaurant, art gallery, and exhibition space.

“It was a working cellar door when we bought it,” Mr Powell said.

"The unique architecture and vineyard setting, along with the peace and quiet that comes with it, really drew us in."

When the couple first moved in, the property's history as a cellar door was still evident.

"People would stop in looking for a wine tasting," Mr Powell laughed.

“Now, this reimagined Barossa icon awaits its next chapter.”

The couple undertook a comprehensive transformation of the property, with works accelerating significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“A lot of people renovated during COVID, and that certainly accelerated things for us,” Mr Powell said.

“We went full swing during that time - brand new bathrooms, ensuites, a new kitchen, all while working with the old bones of the place.

“It's quite industrial in character.”

The property's heritage was considered during the renovation while creating modern living spaces, Mr Powell said.

A central wine room was created in the middle of the house, taking advantage of the naturally cool conditions.

A rustic wood-fired oven serves dual purposes for both heating and cooking, and the extensive outdoor spaces showcase the property's entertaining potential.

"The community here is lovely and supportive. The setting is spectacular and we've really enjoyed the sunsets here and many an impromptu cocktail hour," Mr Powell said.
