HERE is the luxurious pavilion-style entertainer you’ve been waiting for on the mid-north coast. Set on an idyllic elevated location in Hallidays Point, this three bedroom home is built with ethically recycled timbers and materials. Owners Brigitte and Keith Smith built their home at 117 Red Head Road, Hallidays Pointfor all their friends and family to enjoy. It’s now on the market for $1.6M with Ray White Forster Tuncurry agent Luke Crane.
“We built our home over four years while living in Leonay, in the Lower Blue Mountains. The land has a gentle slope, which takes in all the amazing views , with solid rock beneath for good drainage,” Mrs Smith said. “The house is anchored with threaded galvanised rods running from inside of concrete footings to top of frame in all corner positions. “The unusual roof line makes for an interesting interior, and the ceilings are lined with woven bamboo sheeting which are sealed as the sheeting extends to the one metre eaves. “The coconut posts used in carport and walkway to the pavilion weigh 175 kg each, and the walkway from the house to pavilion has extra thick steel to engineers specifications. The pavilion roof is connected with galvanised steel frames connected within floor slab.”
Mrs Smith said the bamboo railing inside was rubbed back by her father, husband and son over eight days of constant scraping to get bamboo back to its natural state. “They used the back of large knifes so as not to damage the bamboo in any way. The floor is mixed colours of Australian hardwood, which we stored for 12 months to dry out, then my father and I laid the floor in six days on our own so to get the right variation of colours.” All bathrooms are open rooms with either white stones or marble from Bali and the stainless steel grates were handmade in Newcastle. The white kitchen, with pale blue glass splash backs, flows through to study/laundry/sewing room which has lots of storage and a toilet. In the garden there’s lime, lemon, cumquat, peach, mandarin, banana, tangelo, fig, avocado, mango, pecan, ruby red grapefruit trees, plus strawberries and lots of herbs. The front brick fence which covers the width of the property has solid concrete footings and the concrete drive leading from the front automatic gate to the shed has extra thickness to take extra weight from heavy vehicles. Marketing agent Luke Crane, sales agent at Ray White Forster Tuncurry, said this home was truly unique and amazing. “It has enormous character. Not only would it be a great family home but also the perfect opportunity for corporate retreats,” Mr Crane said. “This bespoke property features fantastic ocean views , entertaining areas , separate accommodation on an acre of beautifully maintained land."
