IF YOU have ever dreamed of owning your own island, now is the chance with Nouvelle Island in rural New South Wales up for sale through Ray White Mildura.
Spanning over 33 hectares, the island and bonus 0.8 hectare mainland strip have been owned for more than 10 years by South Australian born man Cliff Taylor and his family. The island is the perfect mix of off-the-grid bushland oasis and island getaway which Mr Taylor said has its own very unique qualities.
“It just depends on what you want to do as to where you would go on the island, it’s quite large and there are areas that are covered by trees if you want to be involved in the bird life and other areas where you can camp,” Mr Taylor said.
“You can also live off grid very comfortably on the island. You’ve got rain water and you’ve got water in the river which is fairly good quality, you’ve got the ability to put in a solar panel and a battery system for your power to run your household.”

Not only does the island appeal perfectly to those wanting to escape the rat race and go bush, it’s also the perfect spot to drop anchor or explore the nearby river system.“You can have a houseboat or some kind of boat that you moor on the island and travel up and down the river or you can conceivably use it as a home base for travelling and exploring the river, it has direct access to the Murray River,” he said.
“We are 39 river kilometres from the junction of the river Murray and the river Darling and you can travel that easily.
“There’s always water in there, there is no shortage of water in that area at all. Our area and the island itself is not short of water because we are under the influence of the Lock 10 and Wier just out of Wentworth.”
And if you’re wondering where the name came from, Mr Taylor gave the island its name after his boat, the Nouvelle Fantasy.
Ray White Mildura director and selling agent Damian Portaro said Mr Taylor approached him as the best person to sell Nouvelle Island which is located about eighteen minutes drive from nearby Wentworth.
“He found me, he did some research online and he liked my marketing, he thought I would do something different and all I thought was how often do you get to show an island in your life?” Mr Portaro said.
As for who he thinks will buy the island he is expecting a range of buyers from those wanting a weekend country escape to those attracted to the novelty of owning their own island.
Nouvelle Island is being sold through private sale with a price guide of $399,500 to $439,000.
