| THIS much-loved post-war family home in the inner west of Sydney is on the market for the first time in 71 years. The home at 9 Duke Ave, Concord was built in 1946 at a time when the availability of quality building materials after the war was limited, so it is all the more special as it's so solid and well maintained. The full red brick bungalow is where Sandra Bartlett grew up. She's now selling the family home with her siblings as their parents have passed away. Ms Bartlett said her dad Jack, who passed away last year aged 94, lived there with her mum Lorna, and raised their three children. “My father built it just before he married my mother and his father, my grandfather, knew a builder and that’s why he was able to get some supplies as they were in such as shortage at the end of the war,” Ms Bartlett said. “They were married young and lived there their whole lives. At the end of the war you were only allowed to have face bricks at the front of your house and the rest were common bricks. “Mum passed away 10 years ago and my parents were very close to each other and dad kept the house in the exact same condition since when mum passed. "It’s the end of an era really. Dad was very particular about the home when mum passed away and it was still kept in exactly the same way as mum would have kept it. “We had cleaners come in and gardeners but he maintained it so well too. “Everyone has stayed in this street until they passed away. It’s a common thing for many of my father’s generation, they were very long livers. They are very resilient as they came through two wars and a depression and they worked hard," she said of her dad Jack, who was an engineer. “It’s always been a sought-after street as it’s very close to the water, and it’s very well connected to the City by ferry, bus or train.” Ray White Drummoyne agent Fiona Hellams labelled this property “immaculate”. “It’s one of the best looked after homes I have seen of this era, it also has a beautiful good size north facing backyard on 510sq,” she said. “It’s in an excellent location, so close to Concord Golf Course, the waterfront, and majors shops and the city and Burwood buses. “The house has excellent bones to live in now with the potential to build on to and renovate”. |
