HOLLYWOOD Director of Photography Peter James has listed his breathtaking Tamarama residence for the first time in over 38 years at 13 Thompson Street through elite eastern suburbs agency Ray White Double Bay.

One of Australia’s most celebrated cinematographers, with an international career spanning more than three decades, Mr James has had an accomplished career.

He remains director Bruce Beresford’s key cinematographer, collaborating on 13 projects together, first with the Australian filmmaker on his 1989 Oscar ®-winning Best Picture “Driving Miss Daisy.”

In the more than two decades since, Mr James has guided the camera work on Mr Beresford’s “Black Robe”, winning Canada’s Genie Award, “Mister Johnson”, “Last Dance”, “Double Jeopardy”, “Bride of the Wind”, “Rich in Love”, “Silent Fall”, “Paradise Road”, “Mao’s Last Dancer” and the HBO western “And Starring Pancho Villa As Himself”, for which he earned an Emmy Award nomination.

And most recently, Mr James collaborated on “Ladies in Black”, about the iconic David Jones department store.

The property offers an unrivalled position with a front-row seat enjoying the mesmerising and intimate 180-degree views over Tamarama Beach.

Mr James’s elevated north-facing beachside residence is set on approximately 580sq m and sits quietly in an iconic coastal cul-de-sac, between Tamarama and Bronte Beaches.

“I had just come back from Italy when I bought the house. It reminded me of the sun drenched houses on the Amalfi Coast looking out over the ocean.

“I engaged the award winning Architect Peter Stronach to redesign the house to take advantage of the views.” said Mr James.

“I love sitting on the lounge on the veranda looking out over the ocean. I never tire of seeing that amazing view."

Sales Executive, Thomas Popple, from the leading Double Bay agency said this home brought the Pacific Ocean into your lounge room.

“You feel like you can just reach out and touch the sand, surf and parkland," Mr Popple said.

"These types of opportunities are very tightly held - particularly those that enjoy a perfect due-north aspect and such an incredible connection to its natural environment. It really doesn’t get much better than this.”

Auction date - Saturday, September 21st - on site.
