The last remaining original house on Airlie Beach foreshore is on the market for the first time since being built around 1950, with Ray White Whitsunday selling agent Mark Beale.

Family photos show the house in 1951 before the front veranda was added.

The two bedroom, one bathroom, two storey house is located on the Northern side of the main street of Airlie Beach, with three frontages, including the stunning esplanade, ocean views and the Airlie Beach Lagoon.

“This high and dry section is on the highly sought after location of 281 Shute Harbour Road, and is likely to be snapped up for redevelopment,” said agent Mark Beale.

The 607sqm home was purchased by IIris and her late husband Arch Campbell as a retirement house after selling their popular Corner Store in Proserpine. Iris was one of the first barmaids of the Airlie Beach Hotel and was famous for the hibiscus flower she always wore behind her ear, and keeping an eye on the local lads.

Quite often she was mentioned in the newspapers, once in 1983 for rejecting half million dollars for the property. However, this was her home even if it was a prime location for buyers.

There she remained with her new soulmate, Ernest Cale (affectionately know as "Wom") and together they became well known and well respected local identities.

The Beneficiaries of this deceased Estate are the daughters of Iris' friend of 75 years, Una. These two met when they both moved to Proserpine in their twenties.

The daughters spent nearly all their school holidays happily at this idyllic beach house and remember vividly running down from the veranda early in the morning to the beach ready to have great times in the water and roam the beaches.

The Auction will be held on site on Saturday the 18th October at 1.00pm.
