DESPITE some damp weather, more than 11,000 people attended Ray White auctions last week when 452 auctions were scheduled across the group.
Almost 130 of those auctions were based in Victoria, where the highest sale under the hammer was the $1.89 million transaction of 33 Mathoura Rd, Toorak, marketed by Ray White Manningham’s George Young.
Also in Melbourne on Saturday was the successful auction of a grand family home at 18 Andleigh Drive, Mulgrave.
The two-storey property, marketed by Ray White Glen Waverley’s Marc Lum, sold for $1.37 million, setting a street record.
“We had four active bidders on the day, and two went at each other all the way to the final price over 30 minutes,” Mr Lum told the Monash Leader.
“It’s a great result for an original, unrenovated home. Especially when another agency recently sold a renovated home with a pool for just over $1.19 million a few doors down”
The season’s first beach box auction opened with a bid of $180,000, before the No.47 beach box at Mornington Peninsula’s beautiful Safety Beach was bought by a local retiree for $230,000.
Ray White Rosebud’s Shane Fox told the Sunday Herald Sun, boxes along the sand didn’t come up for sale as often as buyers would like.
“God isn’t making any more beach and the council isn’t allowing for any more sites so they are a rare commodity,” Mr Fox said.
“It has been in the family for many years, close to 40-50 years, the elderly vendor used to play down there as a child and is sad to see the end of an era passed on.”
In Adelaide, a renovated city-fringe home at 35 Jervois St, Torrensville sold under the hammer on Friday for $500,000.
“We were expecting a sale around the $500,000 mark as the home next door sold for $540,00 — and that was a four bedroom home, whereas this one is a two-bedroom maisonette,” Ray White Woodville’s Peter Kiritsis told The Advertiser.
“So I think we achieved a pretty good sales result. We had three registered bidders on auction day, with bidding starting at $400,000. In the end, it sold to a lovely young couple who purchased the property as an investment.”
A number of Ray White auctioneers and agents hit our television screens on Saturday when their auctions were broadcast live on Auction Day, formerly Sky News Real Estate.
The national real estate show is broadcast every Saturday on Your Money in real-time, with live coverage, breaking news and a range of innovative programs helping you grow, protect and enjoy your wealth. Also simulcast on free-to-air channel 95 and Foxtel channel 601.
Ray White Cheltenham’s Kevin Chokshi was agent/auctioneer for 3/39 Garfield St, Cheltenham which sold under the hammer on Saturday morning for $653,000.
While Ray White Craigieburn's Domenic Campisi marketed 26 Mangrove Way, Craigieburn which was auctioned off on Saturday afternoon by colleague Trish Orrico for $740,000.
