Available for the first time in forty years, this stylishly renovated, Californian bungalow family home in Woodville has been tightly held for good reason.

On a 1190 square metre block, the four-bedroom, two-bathroom house represents a rare opportunity to buy in the low stock market.

Built in 1910, 60 Harvey Street East features characteristic sloping roof and eaves, as well as a north-facing return verandah capturing plenty of winter sun, according to the vendor, Rosie Hor, who raised her family there.

“We extended the house knowing we’d have two teenagers who would want their own space,” she explained.

The renovations included living space for the children at the front of the house and a parent’s retreat at the back, along with a large family room.

“My favourite part is the family room and kitchen,” said Ms Hor.

“A large granite breakfast bench melds the outside with the living and kitchen area so it is all open and you can see the whole backyard.”

“Our garden has also been a labour of love for the past 40 years,” she added.

“A lot of birds are attracted to the property and we have quite a few trees in the yard. My husband always used to say ‘we are at one with nature’.”

Additionally, the expansive block ensures neighbours are not close, providing plenty of peace and quiet

“A family of two or more children would find it very comfortable here,” said Ms Hor.

“It has massive bedrooms, towering 16 foot ceilings and five fireplaces - all functional,” she said, adding that she is sad to be moving on.

“I am in that house by myself now. It is time for me to downsize.”

Selling agent, Peter Kiritsis from Ray White Woodville predicts that another family will buy the property.

“It is a very attractive area for young and growing families,” he said.

“The area has been popular for a long time due to those big old homes and it’s position between the city and the coast.”

“Stock is quite low because it is so tightly held. As soon as one of these nice homes comes up there is huge interest,” he added, noting that at the first open house they had more than 40 interested parties attend.

The property sits one street away from Woodville Park train station where the CBD is only a 10 minute ride away.

Nearby schools, Whitefriars Catholic and Woodville High, are both within walking distance.

Other features include a double garage and double carport, ducted reverse-cycle air conditioning, alarm system, electric driveway gates and visitor intercom.

The property will go to auction on March 11 2017.
