Former NBA player Aron Baynes’ beautiful Brisbane house has been listed for sale by prestige agents, Matt Lancashire and Josh Brown, of Ray White New Farm.
The iconic seven bedroom Brisbane home at 49 Reading St, Paddington, shares the same vantage point as Government House. In fact it predates Government House and was designed by the same architect and built in the 1860s.
The grand Queenslander called The Governess presents in its original glory, on a 1634sqm north-facing block of land with sweeping views across Brisbane's CBD.
Baynes and his wife Rachel bought the property with plans to renovate.
A few months later Baynes suffered a freak spinal cord injury in Tokyo during the Olympics last year. He took more than five months to learn how to walk again. He’s now healed and hopes to return to the NBA.
“We love the house and its history and we love Paddington. It’s just that the location wasn’t the best for us as our kids’ schools are on the northside,” Baynes said, who is now back home playing for the Brisbane Bullets after 15 years playing in the US and Europe.
“We had been on the lookout for a long time for a classic federation house style Queenslander and this house has a lot of history behind it.”
Baynes played college basketball for Washington State University before starting his professional career in Europe. In 2013, he joined the San Antonio Spurs, and a year later, won an NBA championship with the Spurs. He has also played with the Detroit Pistons, Boston Celtics, and Phoenix Suns. Baynes also plays for the Australian national team. |
