Adelaide council has announced a ten-year plan for the city's transport needs in order to make the streets safer and more convenient.
The plan, known as Smart Move - The City of Adelaide's Transport and Movement Strategy 2012 - 2022, is about addressing the future of transport in the South Australian capital to ensure that population growth won't overwhelm infrastructure.
Lord Mayor Stephen Yarwood said: "We have 200,000 people coming into the CBD every day.
"This strategy addresses a planned increase over the next 30 years of at least 100,000 residents, workers, students and visitors traveling to and around the city every day so that Adelaide remains one of the world's most liveable cities."
The state government is in support of this project with the transport and infrastructure minister Patrick Conlon, saying that encouraging the use of public transport will ease the burden of the city's residents.
This ten-year strategy has seen the council consult with not just residents but local businesses, commercial real estate and the community to devise a plan that can cater to as many needs as possible.
Ideally, the council is looking to implement a plan that will encourage more outdoor dining, increase bicycle paths and bus lanes, while balancing that with as much on street parking for businesses as possible.
