Malmsbury' - Built Circa 1917Property ID 175173234 Gladstone Street was originally one of three Federation Style homes built in 1917 which, 100 years on and lovingly maintained, still today proudly graces Gladstone Street. The original high set design included 3 bedrooms with a central hall. At this time, the street below (now Salisbury Street) was a creek with horse stables along the banks. Brisbane has changed a lot in the last 100 years and Malmsbury is testament to the fine building materials of the time and proudly stands ready for a new family to enjoy for the next century.
The house was purchased by the present owners in October 1985. The only major works done prior to this time was the addition of a side verandah in the 1930's. The house had been well cared for and our current owners immediately fell in love with the home and named it Malmsbury after their previous address in Victoria.
In 1986, a family room was built on the rear of the house and a back deck was constructed to add more outdoor entertaining space. The pool was built in 1991 and an internal laundry was also added. In 1994, significant alterations to the house included opening up of the second living room upstairs, extending the master bedroom and the addition of a 6th bedroom downstairs. The traditional tin roof was completely replaced in 2012.
The owners describe their beloved family house as: A spacious, charming, and well-maintained family home surrounded by character houses. Malmsbury is located in a quiet street with superb access to well-regarded local schools (including Indooroopilly State School, Brisbane Boys' College, and St Peter's), Indooroopilly Shopping Centre, and very convenient public transport links. The CBD is only 15 minutes away.
Facing north and set high on the hill, this iconic Queenslander's superb layout offers the perfect family environment. With polished floors, sash windows, recently painted weatherboards, internal VJ walls and ceilings, Malmsbury is a beautiful and traditional Queenslander. All rooms are light, bright, and airy, with period-style breezeways.
After renovations, the home now benefits from a split level design. Malmsbury has 4 spacious bedrooms on the top floor, with a formal living room, library, and the main family bathroom. The lower level, overlooking the pool, has a large, open plan family room, with a solid timber country-style kitchen with granite benches and European appliances. This family area opens onto a partially covered deck with ceiling fan, timber plantation shutters for privacy and town gas for the BBQ - an ideal entertaining area. There are two more bedrooms on the lower level (with separate courtyard/street access). One of these rooms could double as a multi-purpose room perfect for a study, hobby room, or kids' playroom. Internal access to the large double lock-up garage is located through the downstairs internal laundry.
The surrounding gardens have been well maintained and include a cottage' style front garden with a flat grassed play area at the back. The large 10m pool can be seen clearly from the kitchen, family room, and back deck. A safe and private area for all the kids to enjoy.
