Northern Territory to benefit from major project

The Northern Territory has experienced unprecedented growth in recent months, with steady activity in the resources sector and record investment into infrastructure and services.

And the recent announcement from the state government confirms that even more benefits will be on their way to the state, likely in the form of commercial property investment, business expansion and employment opportunities.

Chief minister Paul Henderson announced on Tuesday (May 29) that the Western Desert
Resources’ Roper Bar Iron Ore project has been awarded major project status in an effort to ensure best results for the Northern Territory.

"This proposed project will provide a significant economic boost to the region and create jobs and training opportunities never before seen in the region," said Mr Henderson.

Worth roughly $180 million, the venture will provide long and short term benefits to the resident of local communities in the state – including jobs, social enterprise and future royalties.

"We've made the decision to award Major Project status to this project to ensure all arms of government are working together to capitalise on the huge economic benefits this project will bring."
